Routes & Climbing spots in Ibiza

There is a multitude of climbing spots, known as schools, scattered across the north of the island. Each of these locations offers unique characteristics and, most importantly, breathtaking views. Depending on your skill level, you can choose from various options:

  • Penyal de s'Àguila - San Miguel

This is the most renowned sea cliff in Ibiza, offering a stunning view of the Mediterranean and a particularly impressive sunset. Penyal de s'Àguila features around thirty routes, but be cautious of humidity issues. To reach it from San Miguel, head to the Illa Blanca urbanization, cross it, take the first semi-slip road on the right, park, and continue walking for about 15 minutes.

  • Buda - San José

Located approximately 160 meters south of Ibiza, these walls are considered the birthplace of climbing in Ibiza. The name "Buda" comes from a painting of Buddha on one of the walls. This climbing spot offers various types of climbing and boasts the highest number of routes and difficulty levels. To reach Buda, head to Cala d'Hort beach, and well before arriving, take a white dirt road on the left.

  • Es Vedrà - San José

Situated in front of the Pirate Tower in San José, Es Vedrà is another favored area for climbers. Rising almost four hundred meters vertically, this wall stands prominently in the middle of the sea, about a kilometer from the beach. Access, however, is only possible by sea.

  • Cala / Punta Aubarca

Situated to the north of the island, this climbing spot provides a stunning landscape where the sea takes center stage. The extensive plate rock features distinctive formations, and the area is home to some of the most characteristic birds on the island.

To reach Cala / Punta Aubarca, head towards the town of San Mateo in San Antonio. Upon arrival, take the detour to Santa Inés. Follow the sign indicating 'Cala Albarca' on the left until you reach some houses. Look for the sign to 'Can Puyolet' and proceed. Pass the next lighthouse on the right, continue until you can turn left, and park at the end. The path continues on foot, taking about 20 minutes.

  • Santa Inés

In this area, you'll find El Camp Vell, a cliff that reaches 398 meters, making it one of the highest in the north of Ibiza. The climbing sectors Despiste and Matxots are prominent in the Santa Inés climbing area, offering a spectacular landscape with lush pine trees against the backdrop of the sea.

To reach Santa Inés, follow the same directions as going to Punta Aubarca. Once you pass 'Can Puyolet,' take the path to the left of the lighthouse. Park when you reach the first pine forest and follow the track until it divides into three parts, taking the left path.

  • Ses Fontanelles or Sa Cova des vi, near Cala Salada:

This spot, located next to Cala Salada, features a small cave between cliffs where the only cave paintings in Ibiza were discovered. The number of routes here is somewhat limited, mainly vertical, with

good-quality rock and heights ranging from 7 to 30 meters.

To find Ses Fontanelles, take the road from Cala Salada. Before reaching the beach, at the last bend, take the dirt road on the right. Continue straight, and when the road divides, go to the right. At the next fork, follow the left path. Park and continue on foot along the right path.
